Kitchen are one of the most used room in the home....but it doesn't have to look like it. Whether you are completely remodeling your kitchen or just want to give it a fresh updated look, keeping it clutter free is the key. When planning a kitchen from scratch make sure you have plenty of cabinets and everything has a home. Special cabinets for trash and recycling and pots and pans are a must. You want your counters to be clear of any extra clutter so considering cabinets for cooks untensils and small appliances are a good idea also. As a rule, don't keep every small appliance you own out on display on your counters. Most times you only use them once in a while and they collect dust. Your kitchen will look much more fresh, clean and airy with minimal stuff on your counters. Instead, place some modern decor such as vases, fresh fruit or small potted greenery. If you must keep some small appliances out, limit it to 2-3, such as a coffee maker, toaster and microwave.

For smaller or mid size kitchens, don't be affraid of using dark cabinets. Incorporating fresh colors and crip whites can make the room feel larger. With dark cabinets you can lighten the room by using white counter tops and accent your finishes with silver, chrome or brushed nichel.
